Traffic calming measures and road markings in place on the N4 (east) of Carrick

At the April meeting of Leitrim County Council I wish to ask the Director of Services, Infrastructure, to re-examine the traffic calming measures and road markings in place on the N4 (east) of Carrick on Shannon, with a view to solving road safety concerns both at the Attirory Junction and the Roundabout at the main entrance to the town. Residents entering and exiting Attirory have raised serious concerns with regard to the right-hand turning bay, opposite the Attirory junction. Drivers (from the east) are misinterpreting the right hand turning bay (for Attirory traffic coming from the west) as a turning bay for entering the filling station. This has caused a number of near misses. Also, drivers (travelling from the east) approaching the roundabout at the entrance to the town are not given enough advance notice that the right hand lane is to be used by vehicles that wish to enter the town. When three or more cars are already queuing for the roundabout the road markings advising of the appropriate lane usage cannot be seen by approaching traffic. These items need to be addressed as a matter of urgency
